
Traditional recipe from Bulgaria. Very tasty pork bacon prepared fresh cabbage. Very popular during winter period and it combines well with red wine🍷

minutesFresh cabbage with bacon prepared in sauce pan. There are two ways to prepare it. If you prefer sour taste, you can add some vinegar when crush the cabbage. Or you can use sour cabbage for this recipe. All variance are tasty. Incorporate with fried bacon gives fantastic result. You only need cabbage, bacon, tomatoes, saucepan, and it is done.
Ingredients
0.5 kg Pork bacon, chopped
1 kg Cabbage, chopped
100 ml Olive oil
150 g Tomatoes, chopped
3 tsp Paprika
Black pepper
Bay leaf, /optional/
Parsley
Garlic, finely chopped /optional/
Directions
- Start
Chop the pork bacon and the cabbage in thin slices and salt them. Add black pepper over bacon. Crush the cabbage with salt and leave it for 15 minutes. - Cooking
Heat the oil on medium and fry the meat with half of the paprika for 5 minutes. If you prefer and like garlic, you can add here. Add the cabbage, other half of paprika and 1/2 cup of water. Leave for 10 minutes until cabbage soften. On next step add the tomatoes. Stir periodically. Don’t worry if the saucepan looks too small and the cabbage goes out. It will soften as it cooks. But for your convenience, you can use bigger saucepan - Finish
Cook it for another 20 minutes until cabbage and pork are ready. Add meanwhile the bay leaf, if you prefer. Put parsley on top. - Serve
