Utensils Used:
Toothpicks
Baking tray or flat oven-safe dish
Oven
Teaspoon

Ingredients

  • 14 slices smoked bacon (from about 2 packs)

  • 14 pitted dried prunes

  • 100 g (about 3.5 oz) creamy spreadable cheese (e.g. triangle cheese)

  • 14 toothpicks

Directions

  • Preparation

Start by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F). Lay out the bacon strips on a clean surface. Take each dried prune and, where the pit used to be, insert about 1 teaspoon of creamy cheese. Be gentle to avoid tearing the fruit. Place the prune with the cheese at one end of a bacon strip and roll it tightly into a small cylinder. Secure the roll with a toothpick to hold everything in place. Repeat this for all 14 pieces.Bacon with prunes
  • Cooking

Once all the bacon-prune rolls are ready, place them on a large baking tray or any flat, oven-safe dish. Make sure they’re spaced slightly apart to allow even heat circulation. Slide the tray into the preheated oven and bake for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep a close eye on them—the bacon should start to crisp, and the cheese will melt inside the prunes. Avoid overbaking, as the bacon can become too hard or even burn at the edges.Bacon rolls with prunes
  • Finishing

As soon as the bacon looks golden and slightly crispy, remove the tray from the oven. Let the bites cool for 2–3 minutes to allow the cheese to settle and prevent burns when serving. The bacon will firm up a bit during cooling, making them easier to pick up and eat. Remove any excess grease using paper towels if desired.Bacon rolls with prunes
  • Serving

Serve these savory-sweet bites warm or at room temperature. They pair wonderfully with dry red wine, a light salad, or a cheese board. You can also drizzle them lightly with balsamic glaze for an elegant finish. These appetizers are a delightful contrast of smoky bacon, sweet prune, and creamy cheese—an experience in every bite.

Notes

  • ✅ Do:
Use pitted prunes to save time and avoid choking hazards.
Insert the cheese gently and evenly for balanced bites.
Monitor the baking closely, especially after 5 minutes.
    ❌ Don’t:
Don’t overbake. Bacon burns quickly and becomes bitter.
Don’t use thick bacon—it might not crisp up before the cheese overmelts.
Don’t overcrowd the tray; airflow is important for even cooking.
